Dionysus
About This Spot
Stepping into Dionysus feels like slipping into a warm embrace of authentic Greek-Cypriot hospitality tucked away in a quiet corner of North London. The restaurant exudes a welcoming simplicity, where the focus is gently but clearly on enjoying timeless flavours in a relaxed, no-fuss environment. There’s a comforting rhythm here — unhurried, yet attentive — as if every guest is invited to linger over their meal and the stories shared around the table.
The space itself carries a subtle intimacy, echoing the kind of neighborhood spot where familiar faces and new visitors come together over food that speaks of tradition and care. Whether you find yourself at the sit-down restaurant just off Meadway or picking up a takeaway on High Street, the warmth of the service hums softly in the background, with staff who seem to take genuine pride in making each experience personal and thoughtful.
At Dionysus, dishes arrive with a sense of rootedness — a menu that honors classic recipes such as the beloved sheftalia, delicate calamari, and tender souvlakia, all prepared with freshness and balanced seasoning. The sides and dips, from velvety tzatziki to rich taramosalata, don’t simply complement the main dishes but invite a little conversation of their own on the palate. There’s a quiet joy in discovering how these flavours come together, conjuring memories of meals around family tables, where every bite is a moment to savor.
For those who appreciate subtle touches, the charm of Dionysus is in the understated attention to detail — crisp halloumi fries served hot, perfectly grilled lamb cutlets carrying just a whisper of aromatic spice, and the kind of freshness that suggests every ingredient has been chosen with care. It’s a place that feels both honest and familiar, where you can trust the food to remind you of home, even if you’re miles away from the Mediterranean coast.
Whether visiting after a busy day or planning a leisurely weekend treat, Dionysus offers a quietly satisfying pause — a chance to enjoy real Greek Cypriot cooking served with genuine warmth and gentle pride in every plate.

Absolutely fantastic place! I ordered the liver with Cypriot chips and tahini, and it was hands down the best liver I’ve ever tasted — cooked to absolute perfection and full of flavour. The service was just as impressive. Nicole, who served me, was warm, welcoming, friendly and confidently ran the show. Truly 5-star service. I mentioned that I’d be bringing my daughters next time to try the rose ice cream, and she very kindly gave me one on the house — such a thoughtful gesture, and it was absolutely delicious. I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, the service is second to none, and the food is outstanding. There are toilets at the back for dine-in guests, it’s around a 20-minute walk from Southgate tube station, and there’s plenty of off-street parking. I’ll definitely be returning!

Takeaway (entrance on High St) and slightly less obvious sit-down restaurant (entrance a little bit into Meadway). I actually ordered from the takeaway before realising there was a whole other restaurant next door, it could do with better signage! I went to Dionysus on the recommendation of a former Greek Cypriot colleague, especially for the sheftalia (pork meatballs wrapped in caul fat). They were well-seasoned, and came with plenty of lemon to squeeze on. There were also smashed green olives marinated with lemon rind and coriander seeds, which come with carrot and turnip batons. The staff and clientele were very friendly, some started to chat with me about the history of this restaurant and there was a little girl having her birthday (candle on her sheftalia). The server even put on Happy birthday on the speakers. The restrooms were also pleasant, with the faint noise of cicadas playing. If you’re lucky, it may be possible to ask for an “off-menu” Greek coffee, which i was told is made in a manner similar to Turkish coffee, with Arabica beans. I also came again to try the avgolemono soup, as Dionysus is one of the few restaurants in London to serve it. Be warned - it’s very sharp and tangy. All in all, I thoroughly recommend Dionysus.

A really nice little place serving delicious Greek food. The waiter we had was amazing, super nice and attentive. The restaurant was immaculate. A few vegetarian options on the menu too.

The food was exceptionally fresh and cooked to perfection. It was the best Greek cuisine I have had in a long time. The dips were particularly impressive, especially the garlic dip, which left a delightful taste in my mouth. fresh chips were mouthwatering, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive an extra service to ensure they were delivered within five minutes of my phone call as they didn’t arrive with my order . The service was exceptional, and I highly recommend this establishment. They also provided a delightful dessert as a gesture of goodwill. Thank you very much for your exceptional service. Your food and service are truly remarkable. My husband, who is gluten-free, has never experienced any adverse reactions after dining at your establishment. They are truly fantastic.

Absolutely amazing food — exactly like my yiayia used to make! So nostalgic if you grew up as a North London Greek Cypriot. Everything was full of flavour and perfectly seasoned. The sheftalies were spot on — juicy, with just the right balance of clove and cinnamon. The pork souvlaki was perfect, and the Cyprus roast potatoes with tomato and onion tasted completely authentic. Yum. Very high-quality meat and really reasonable prices for the standard. Easily the best Cypriot restaurant I’ve been to — can’t wait to go back. Lovely waiter too, which made the whole experience on a busy Friday evening, even better.

For years I’ve always got a take away from there and finally visiting the UK had a done on opportunity…. Fantastic food and service. Was extremely busy but the standards were brilliant….although the Sheftalia ran out.
